Montreal, November 2005-January 2006.

The indoor installation (430 De Castelnau est: repetition) mimicked key elements from the shop. It was built with cardboard (except the window was real glass). The performance began at dusk and concluded in darkness. Gestures such as “absorbing” the space through moving and breathing, covering the window in soap, were combined with improvised sound (in collaboration with violinist Malcolm Goldstein), fragments of text, and interacting with a paper puppet that was pulled out from the cardboard cash register. Here I am seen soaping the window, partially obscuring the view to the inside. Later in the piece I wrote on the other side of the glass, listing names of old Montreal shops that had recently closed.

Materials: cardboard, wood, glass, mirrors, found objects, paper, soap, water.
