Housesweep

Mooste, Estonia, August 10, 2006

While at a residency in a small village in Estonia, I did an impromptu performance in an abandoned farmhouse, accompanied by Mari Kalkun, an Estonian musician. Earlier that day I had completely cleared out one room, moving everything that I found into an adjoining room. The performance consisted of sweeping the room, as the wind from the open windows continued to blow the dust back into the room. I also attempted to re-place giant pieces of wallpaper that had fallen from the walls. These gestures were done almost blindly, since I was wearing a mask.

Materials: paper mask, broom, wallpaper.
