This exhibition was the culmination of a month-long residency in which I arrived with nothing, with the goal of responding to the context. One of the themes explored was blindness, such as in a series of portrait drawings rendered without looking at the paper, but rather inspired by faces seen in walls. There was also the theme of clean vs. soiled; order vs. chaos; aged vs. new, expressed in the "Collection of White Things" and the "Collection of Dark Things". For me these separate collections opened up questions concerning ethnicity, history, as well as the aesthetic pleasure of everyday objects and what we value or discard.
