Performance at opening of my exhibition, At Home Gallery, Samorìn, Slovakia
April 23, 2010 (approximately 30 minutes)

This piece evolved out of a residency in a former synagogue. As the audience entered I was seated at a distance, in the process of sculpting small animals out of bread. The animals were then put in a jar for later. The next action was to hand each audience member a jar with a ball of string inside. Soon the entire space resonated with many tones as people pulled the strings. I went up to the balcony and lowered down a pair of shoes. The shoes contained charcoal which was then used to draw the final touches on the giant puppet: cabinet doors on its chest. The puppet was moved around the space, as I improvised with my voice. The final gesture was to bring empty jars to the puppet, and place a bread animal inside each jar.

Materials: puppet: paper, masking tape, string, wallpaper paste, charcoal (from fireplace); jars collected from

locals, string, challah bread, voice
